Dental Examination

As with the rest of the body, prevention and early detection of problems in the mouth will significantly reduce the likelihood of the occurrence of pain and infection. At lakeside dentists each examination will include:

  •    A thorough evaluation for the presence of tooth decay, fractures or infection
  •    A thorough evaluation of the status of existing restorations, crowns, bridges and implants
  •    A thorough evaluation of the supporting structures of the teeth (gums and bone)
  •    Oral cancer screening
  •    Radiographic (x-ray) assessment of the teeth and supporting structures if necessary

Professional Dental Cleaning

Residual food debris in conjunction with oral bacteria and saliva form a sticky film that coats teeth called plaque. If this is not removed completely every day using a combination of effective toothbrushing and flossing techniques it will harden and become firmly adherent to the tooth surface. This becomes known as calculus or tartar.

The regular and thorough removal of tartar is necessary to prevent gingivitis and periodontitis (gum disease) which, if allowed to progress, will eventually cause bone loss sufficient for complete tooth loss.

Our registered professional dental hygienist, Jane, will remove the tartar and plaque surrounding teeth at your dental cleaning appointment using a variety of specialized hand and ultrasonic instruments as well as polish your teeth to remove stain
